ADDS:

I heavily dislike adds. I like the concept of adds and how they are used to brand your company and how other companies make money off adds. It all makes sense but to me I just can't stand when there is a Subaru commercial on and it has six dogs sitting in the car and then the dogs start driving and words pop up on the screen saying: DOG APPROVED  Who cares if it's dog approved, shouldn't it be people approved too, because we are the ones buying the damn things. Yes there are adds that I laugh out loud because they are just plain funny, and to me the ones that interest me or make me react in a good way to it are the companies or logos that I will remember. The Itunes, Clydesdale horse for Budweiser and Audi are some of the commercials that I enjoy to watch.
It's the adds on the computer that really get me. I'm just trying to read this article and move on with my day and you have adds popping up every 30 seconds. For an odd reason I don't like how behemoth companies have adds all over the place, 24/7. To me it's just weird because everyone knows who Facebook or Chevrolet is, but I understand they want to market their car or resources to us in hopes for inspiring us to change our way.

Detroit is definitely doing better

This article here talks about how Detroit has been improving in ever possible way. the fact Hollywood is coming to Detroit to do movies. new business are opening up downtown is great for the city. the article talks a bit about an area called capitol hill where not many many people used to be be. But now the area is buzzing and doing great. John Varvatos the famous designer is even opening a new flagship store downtown. people see that Detroit is coming back and they are capitalizing and I for one couldn't be happier because that's just what the city needs.

NBA Power Rankings

paine-RPM-power-rankings.0119_NEWAt this point in the regular season in the NBA the Golden State Warriors are projected to win the championship I couldn't agree more.  The warriors are on fire and only have 6 loses on the season.  The splash brothers ( Steph Curry and Klay Thompson) are just too much too much to handle above the arch and then you have Draymond Green, a former Spartan i'd like to point out, who is a absolute monster down low grabbing boards.  Pulling in at the number 2 spot is the oldest team in the NBA, the Spurs.  Tim Duncan has won a championship in 3 different decades.  But I guess old man power rules since Duncan leads the team in rebounds and points.  I personally think the pistons will win the championship.  They are fire right now.  Ever since the pitons got rid of Josh Smith they have been winning games and are a force that cannot be stopped.

Deforce Movie

This movie is somewhat depressing. Growing up in Michigan, I have always known Detroit as a place where you shouldn't go past a certain point at night, and you should always have someone with you. Words that are used to describe it are dangerous or crime-filled. It is cool to be able to see in the movie that Detroit used to be a place of high-class society and a place of entertainment. It's hard to envision Detroit as that place today, so it is nice to have a visual representation of the feeling that Detroit carried years ago. Although Detroit has gone through bankruptcy, hard times, I do believe it is getting better as a whole. As long as people continue to go to the sporting events and the city gets cleaned up, and becomes an environment where people want to be, I think that it could potentially go back to the way it was before the riots took place.

Deforce

I found the movie " Deforce" very interesting. Prior to watching the movie i had no idea how Detroit went from being one of Americas greatest cities to how it is today. It seems like the people of Detroit destroyed it themselves. and nobody else had anything to do with it.  The people of Detroit pushed people out of the city with violence.  This meant the city had to raise taxes for fewer people because a lot of people left and the city didn't have enough money coming in.  Then there was corruption among the cities government officials.  Even though the city had no money to spare officials still took money from the city.  This happened in the 80s and then again more recently with Kwame Kilpatrick. This is why the city of Detroit destroyed itself and nobody else had anything to do with it.

Mean Girls

I thought Mean Girls was very funny but also very unrealistic.  All movies portray High School like some awful place where there's bullies and judgement at every corner.  There's the classic Bully taking some weaker kids money but not once have Ive ever witnessed anywhere at Groves somebody taking somebody's lunch money. Also there is not nearly as much judgement in high school as the movie portrayed. In the movie its like people do the most insignificant things and they jump to all these seemingly random conclusions.  There is some judgement but it seems the whole thing is just extremely exaggerated and amplified in every high school movie.

An interesting presentation

I've put a link in this post to a Prezi that I thought was interesting. It's very relevant to the topic we're talking about in class relating to gender stereotypes in society and in the media. The Prezi talks about two movies "Fight Club" and " Mean Girls". In this post I will discuss the mean girls portion. First off the movie is described as a "chick flick" or a film that is made specifically for girls because it appeals to more women stereotypes than a regular film. The Prezi points out several stereotypes in the movie such as the idea that you have to be skinny to be beautiful, that women backstab each other all the time, the idea that women dress mostly to look good to men, and that all women secretly want attention. These stereotypes are analyzed and broken down in a very neat way. My personal opinion still stands that the movie is funny and fun too watch. the old saying is that every stereotype has some truth to it, so it's good to see that Tina Fey( one of my favorite actresses) can address these stereotypes and make fun of them too for a good laugh. About the Lions:

We all have heard about the pass interference call that was called correctly then reversed. Yes the referees did screw us on a few other play calls, including multiple holding calls missed. But in reality the Lions also beat themselves. The offense and defense both started out fast and were connecting on all costs. Although we were up 14-0 late in the first half I knew this game was far from over and towards the end of the 2nd quarter you could start to see it, instead of getting touchdowns to put the game out of reach coach Lombardi made poor play call decisions and we ended up with field goals instead, which in reality is still point on the board but when you are playing a high quality you have to score touchdowns. And boom all of a sudden at the end of the half Dallas battles back and makes the game a lot closer then it was. So we open up the second half with the ball and on the very first play the ball gets swatted on a pass attempt from Matt Fratford and goes right into the hands of an opposing player. So not the best way to start a half if you ask me. And in my view that's right when everything started to go down hill and fast. From us not going for it on fourth and one, to bad play calls, to the refs be blind to the TEN yard punt. Yes we got screwed on that call but then you kick the ball ten yards, so instead of making them drive 75-80 yards down field it becomes 50. If i was Tony Romo after that punt I'd have the biggest smile on my face. That's easy pickens for a team like Dallas with threats such as Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and Cole Beasly (with a name like that he should be a country singer not a football player).
Last Drive:
Chance for the Lions to win it. The ball gets stripped from Stafford then re-fumbled by Dallas and the ball gets back into Detroit hands. So you decide to again run some bonehead plays that give you three maybe four yards at a time. Not enough when you need to score quickly. And then on the last play of the damn game you get sacked for a fumble. You have got to be kidding me, at least make it a play.

As previously said yes there was a few bad calls but again in my belief I think we defeated ourselves in this game. I'm  a die hard Lions fan and they had one hell of a year. I hope they have as good or better of a year next year. GOOOOO LIIIOOOONNNSSS

Are we really that unpredictable?

Growing up in Michigan my whole life I've heard many people say that our weather is unpredictable. We had 94.9 inches of snow last winter and today we barely have an inch outside. It was 30 degrees two days ago and now it's below 0. We definitely have a case to make for unpredictable weather. A chart brought the question to my attention as if we ranked Detroit against other cities for unpredictable weather we don't rank very high. Th ranked cities were Kansas City, Missouri , Oklahoma City,Oklahoma and Minneapolis, Minneosta. They used different things such as precipitation charts and severe weather charts. The most predictable weather is in places like Las Vegas or LA. I guess Detroit is pretty average after all

Lionel Messi

The chart I looked at represented Lionel Messi's shot attempts while he played with Argentina and Barcelona. I found this chart interested because I play soccer and there is a lot of data to observe. While looking at the data I found that Messi took a lot more shots on goal during his 2010-2011 season with Barcelona. This could have something to do with Messi's confidence level and ability to score. I also noticed how Messi took most of his shots within 18 yards of the goal, which seemed to be where he made most of them. Messi also had more opportunity to shoot while in the 6 yard box, which resulted in more goals during his season with Barcelona. Another interesting fact about this data is that Messi has more saves than misses during both seasons, showing his accuracy and talent at the game of soccer.
